Portuguese Wine: More Than a Tasting

The wine component is led by Margarida, who brings sommelier training to each session, in partnership with Who's Wine, a small independent Portuguese wine distributor. Margarida guides participants through Portugal's 14 wine regions, exploring different terroirs and winemaking techniques. Two to three wines are tasted per session, selected according to the group's preferences.

Guided by Experts

This workshop is led by Úrsula, a ceramist with 10 years of experience. Originally an architect, she transitioned into ceramics in 2014, drawn to its immediacy and tactile nature. Her work is defined by simple, geometric, and minimalist designs, influenced by her architectural background. On the wine side, Margarida's sommelier background brings rigour and curiosity to every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hand-building techniques are taught in the workshop, and will I learn more than one in a single 2-hour session?

The workshop covers hand-building techniques including slabs, molds, coiling, and pinching, and participants are free to explore more than one during the session. How many techniques you use depends on the complexity of the piece you choose to create and your own pace. Complete beginners are very welcome; no prior experience is needed to dive in and experiment.

How many ceramic pieces can I expect to make during the workshop?

Most participants create one to two ceramic pieces during the session, depending on the complexity of the chosen technique and the pace at which you work. The workshop is intentionally kept small, a maximum of 6 to 7 people, so Úrsula can give each participant the individual attention needed to get the most out of the session. All pieces go through two kiln firings, which are included in the price.

When will my finished ceramic pieces be ready for pickup, and how long will they be stored at the studio?

After the workshop, your ceramic pieces go through two kiln firings and will be ready for pickup in approximately 4 weeks. The studio will store your finished work for up to 6 months, giving you plenty of flexibility to arrange collection at a convenient time. If you prefer, we can also ship your pieces directly to your home; shipping costs will be charged separately.

What wines are included in the tasting, and who leads the wine pairing component?

The wine component is curated in partnership with Who's Wine, a small independent Portuguese wine distributor, and led by Margarida, who brings sommelier training to each session. Together, they take participants on a journey through Portugal's 14 wine regions, exploring different terroirs and winemaking techniques. Two to three wines are tasted per session, selected according to the group's preferences, making each experience unique. This is a genuine introduction to Portuguese wine culture, not just a tasting.
