Úrsula Cerâmica Featured on RTP2’s Sociedade Civil Ceramics Special
Úrsula Cerâmica was recently invited to participate in a special episode of RTP2’s Sociedade Civil entirely dedicated to ceramics, craftsmanship and contemporary ceramic art in Portugal.
The episode brought together ceramic artists, makers and creative voices to discuss the enduring relevance of ceramics, from ancient traditions to contemporary artistic practices. In an increasingly digital world, the conversation explored why more people continue to feel drawn to clay, handmade processes and tactile creative experiences.
“There is archaeological evidence of ceramics being used since Antiquity. But what drives those who fall in love with this art and craft? Who continues, by choice, to get their hands dirty with clay and other raw materials?”
As part of the discussion, Úrsula shared her perspective on ceramics as both an artistic practice and a human experience, reflecting on the importance of slowing down, creating by hand and reconnecting with materiality through clay.
The episode also featured ceramic artists and creators Mário Reis, Marta Amador from Manteiga Cerâmica, Carla Santiago from Reshape, Célia Macedo from Célia Macedo Ceramics and Paula Costa from Metanoia Ceramics, bringing together different voices and approaches from Portugal’s contemporary ceramics scene.
Contemporary Ceramics and Handmade Creativity
At Úrsula Cerâmica’s ceramic studio in Lisbon, ceramics is approached as more than object-making. Through handmade Portuguese ceramics, creative workshops and artistic exploration, the studio creates space for people to reconnect with creativity and experience the value of working with their hands.
This vision is reflected through:
• ceramic workshops in Lisbon open to beginners and curious creatives
• handmade ceramic collections inspired by Portuguese craftsmanship
• custom-made ceramic projects
• creative experiences centered around clay, process and artistic expression
As interest in handmade ceramics and slow creative experiences continues to grow, contemporary ceramic studios play an increasingly important role in preserving craftsmanship while creating new forms of artistic connection.
