Úrsula Cerâmica in NiT: From Architecture to Handmade Ceramics
We have some exciting news to share: Úrsula Cerâmica was recently featured in Portuguese magazine NiT, with Úrsula interviewed by journalist Filipa Marcos about the story behind the brand, her journey from architecture to ceramics and the creative process behind our handmade pieces.
It was a lovely opportunity to look back at how Úrsula Cerâmica began, how the studio has evolved and what continues to inspire the pieces we create today.

From architecture to clay
Before Úrsula Cerâmica existed, there was architecture.
Úrsula studied Architecture and worked in the field before discovering ceramics in 2014. What started with a ceramics class gradually became a passion, leading her to explore different techniques, spend more time in the studio and eventually create Úrsula Cerâmica in 2018.
Today, the brand is based in Lisbon, bringing together design, craftsmanship and a love for handmade ceramics.
Handmade ceramics for everyday life
With a background in architecture, Úrsula naturally pays close attention to shape, proportion and functionality. But clay brings something that cannot be completely controlled: variation.
Every piece is shaped, finished and fired by hand, which means that subtle differences in texture, colour and form become part of the final result.
For us, this is one of the most beautiful things about handmade ceramics. The pieces are carefully designed, but they still carry the character of the material and the hands that made them.
What if we made this in clay?
Our collections go beyond traditional tableware.
Alongside plates, bowls and cups, we create vases, trays, candle holders, wine accessories and other objects designed to bring ceramics into different parts of everyday life.
The creative process often starts with a simple question:

It is a question that continues to inspire new pieces, new ideas and new ways of experiencing ceramics.

The studio is also a place where you can experience the process for yourself.
Through our ceramics workshops in Lisbon, participants can learn handbuilding techniques, experiment with clay and create their own pieces, regardless of previous experience.
There is something particularly rewarding about making an object with your own hands and eventually seeing it become part of your home.
